Jenny Masur, anthropologist and author of Heroes of the Underground Railroad Around Washington, D.C., and Char McCargo Bah, author of Alexandria’s Freedmen’s Cemetery: A Legacy Freedom, discuss the history of local slavery and the many men and women, black and white, who acted as operatives and freedom seekers, demonstrating courage, resourcefulness and initiative. Masur worked for 17 years as the National Capital Regional Manager for the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program with the National Park Service. McCargo Bah is an independent historian, a professional genealogist, and a 2014 Living Legend of Alexandria, Virginia. Sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
